TLDR PCOS causes sexual dysfunction, needing comprehensive treatment.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) significantly impacts sexual function, with sexual dysfunction (SDF) being a core biopsychosocial manifestation rather than a secondary complication. The chapter explores how biological factors like hyperandrogenism and insulin resistance, psychological issues such as depression and poor body image, and social challenges like infertility contribute to SDF in PCOS. These elements interact in a self-perpetuating cycle, worsening SDF. Effective management requires a multidisciplinary approach, including lifestyle changes, pharmacological treatments, and psychotherapy, with an emphasis on routine screening and patient-centered care to address the complex interplay of factors affecting sexual health in PCOS.
