TLDR Secondary hairline correction surgery can be effective and satisfying when customized to the patient's needs.
In the study conducted from January 2012 to June 2017, Jae Hyun Park, NaRae Kim, and Seung Hyun You evaluated the outcomes of secondary hairline correction surgeries in 246 female patients who were dissatisfied with their initial surgeries. The patients underwent various revision methods, including follicular unit transplantation (FUT), partial-shave follicular unit extraction (FUE), a combination of both, and non-shaven FUE, with some receiving adjunctive procedures like triamcinolone injections and laser hair removal. The average satisfaction scores were high (patient satisfaction 4.2/5 and physician's objective satisfaction 4.4/5), and touch-up procedures were successful in all 12 patients who received them. No adverse effects were reported. The study concluded that secondary hairline correction surgery can be effective when tailored to the individual's characteristics and reasons for dissatisfaction, though the authors call for more research in diverse populations as the study was limited to Asian participants with black hair.
