TLDR Using a hair removal laser can make hairs finer for better hairline correction in hair transplants, with most patients happy and few side effects.
In 2015, a study involving 24 Asian women demonstrated that using a hair removal laser (HRL) with long-pulse Nd:YAG could effectively create finer hairs for hairline correction in hair transplantation. The laser parameters were set to 35~36 J/cm² energy, 6 ms pulse duration, and 10 mm spot size, with an average of 2.6 sessions leading to a significant reduction in hair diameter from 80.0±11.5 μm to 58.4±13.2 μm. The majority of patients (87.5%) were satisfied with the improvement in their hairlines, and only mild, transient complications were observed. Despite the positive outcomes, the study was limited by its retrospective and uncontrolled design and the lack of long-term follow-up data, suggesting the need for future studies with larger sample sizes and prospective trials.
