TLDR Intense pulsed light is a safe and effective way to thin hair for East Asians after hairline surgery.
In 2017, two studies were conducted on East Asian patients who underwent hairline correction surgery and were dissatisfied with the thickness of their hair. The first study involved 31 patients and used intense pulsed light (IPL) for hair thinning, with 90.3% of patients reporting satisfaction. The second study involved 54 women, with an average age of 31.2 years. The initial IPL treatment used 10 J, with subsequent sessions using 10 to 15 J based on responsiveness. The mean hair thickness before the procedure was 78.86 µm, which was reduced to 66.14 µm after one procedure for 74% of subjects. The studies concluded that IPL is a safe and effective method for thinning hair after hairline correction surgery in East Asians. However, the studies were limited by their relatively short follow-up periods and small sample sizes, suggesting the need for further research.
