TLDR The cross beam laser is a useful tool for safely measuring scalp stretchiness to improve hair transplant results.
In a retrospective study involving 165 patients, the cross beam laser (CBL) was evaluated for its effectiveness in measuring scalp laxity during hair restoration surgery and was found to be significantly correlated with the Mayer elasticity scale (MES). The CBL provided practical, painless, and reliable real-time measurements, which are important for the safety and effectiveness of donor excision. Despite slight discrepancies between CBL width measurements and the actual width of the donor strip, these differences were deemed clinically insignificant. The study supports the use of the CBL technique for assessing scalp laxity to maximize graft harvesting in both initial and subsequent hair transplant sessions, thereby enhancing surgical outcomes.
