TLDR Two methods reliably measure scalp area and hair count.
This study validated the interchangeability of two methods for measuring scalp surface area and hair count, involving 25 participants for scalp measurements and 50 for hair count. Using a calibrated measuring tape and Image-Pro software, the study found minimal bias and good reliability (ICC of 0.75) for head crown area measurements, with moderate agreement (CCC of 0.74). Hair count assessments using CASLite NOVA and Image-Pro also showed good agreement. The findings support the use of both measure-tape-based and image-based methods for reliable head crown area and hair count evaluations in hair care product testing and research.
