TLDR Higher fiber intake may reduce psoriasis severity, but more research is needed for effective dietary strategies.
This scoping review explores the role of diet in managing psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting 60 million people globally. It highlights that people with psoriasis (PLwP) often consume higher fat and lower fiber diets, with lower psoriasis severity linked to higher fiber intake. While PLwP believe diet impacts their symptoms and often adopt restrictive diets, systematic reviews and RCTs show dietary improvements mainly benefit specific groups, such as those with obesity or coeliac disease. The evidence for supplements is inconclusive, and current guidance focuses on weight loss. The review calls for larger, controlled trials to establish effective dietary strategies for all PLwP and suggests that understanding diet modification and experiences can improve holistic psoriasis care.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

The conversation discusses whether sunlight exposure affects hair growth or loss, with mixed anecdotes and theories but no clear consensus. Some suggest moderate sunlight can benefit hair by providing vitamin D, while others doubt its effectiveness compared to treatments like Minoxidil or finasteride.
