TLDR As people get older, they have less active hair growth, but women have thicker hair than men and respond better to hair loss treatments.
The 2018 study on 254 subjects with androgenic alopecia found that as age increases, the percentage of hair in the active growth phase (anagen) decreases, while the resting phase (telogen) increases. Females had a higher average hair density than males and responded better to anti-hair loss treatments. However, there were no significant differences in hair density among different age groups.
