Safety of low-dose oral minoxidil for hair loss: A multicenter study of 1404 patients
June 2021
in “Journal of The American Academy of Dermatology”
TLDR Low-dose oral minoxidil safely treats hair loss, with hypertrichosis as main side effect.
A study of 1404 patients found that low-dose oral minoxidil is a safe and effective treatment for hair loss, with hypertrichosis being the most common side effect. Systemic adverse effects were rare, with lightheadedness reported in 1.7% of patients and fluid retention in 0.6%. Treatment was discontinued in 1.7% of patients due to adverse effects. The study suggests that low-dose oral minoxidil is a safe treatment option for hair loss.
