TLDR Family history and stress are linked to early hair graying, with family history being the main factor.
The study analyzed risk factors for premature canities (graying of hair before age 25) in 80 medical students from Universitas Sumatera Utara (class of 2016-2018). It found that 71.2% of respondents had premature canities. Bivariate analysis showed significant correlations with family history and stress (p ≤ 0.05). Multivariate analysis confirmed family history as the most dominant risk factor (p = 0.000). The study concluded that both family history and stress were significantly associated with premature canities, with family history being the most influential factor.
