TLDR Standardized PRP is effective for tendinopathies, with most patients improving after one injection.
This retrospective study at Lausanne University Hospital evaluated the efficacy of standardized autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for treating tendinopathies in 48 patients, aged 18-86, with a mean age of 43.4 years. The study found that 61% of patients experienced favorable outcomes, such as full return to activity and pain disappearance, after a single PRP injection, while 36% required two injections. The platelet concentration factor, typically ranging from 2.0 to 2.5, did not significantly affect clinical efficacy. The research emphasized the importance of standardizing PRP manufacturing and administration protocols to minimize variability and improve treatment outcomes, supporting the effectiveness of standardized PRP preparations for tendinopathies, independent of patient age, gender, or activity level.
