TLDR About 61% of women who had COVID-19 experienced hair loss afterward.
A cross-sectional study involving 500 female patients who had recovered from COVID-19 found that 61.4% of them reported hair problems post-infection. The most common hair issues were telogen effluvium (60.8%), increased gray hair (13.8%), seborrheic dermatitis (5.6%), trichotillomania (3.6%), and alopecia areata (2.2%). Hair loss was more prevalent among those in the 31–40-year age group, healthcare workers, and divorced or widowed females. It was also more common among those who needed hospital and ICU admission, those with severe respiratory symptoms, and those who used antibiotics for COVID treatment. The study concluded that post-COVID hair fall, confirmed by trichoscopy, affected approximately 61.4% of infected females.
