TLDR COVID-19 patients may experience hair loss, but it's not linked to their age or sex.
This cross-sectional study investigated the prevalence of telogen effluvium (TE), a type of hair loss, in 198 COVID-19 patients at Rohani hospital of Babol Medical University Of Sciences. The study found that 48 patients experienced hair loss, suggesting TE could be a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, potentially due to the stress and medications related to the disease. There was no correlation found between hair loss and the patients' age or sex, but there was a significant correlation between a positive COVID-19 test and hair loss. The study emphasizes that physicians should be aware of the potential for delayed TE in COVID-19 patients and highlights the need for further research to understand the mechanisms behind TE in the context of COVID-19.
