TLDR About a quarter of the participants experienced hair loss after COVID-19 vaccination.
This cross-sectional study involved 2000 Egyptian participants who had received a COVID-19 vaccine and aimed to assess the prevalence of post-vaccination hair loss using dermoscopy. The results indicated that 478 participants (23.9%) experienced hair loss, typically within the first two months following vaccination. The types of hair loss observed included acute onset telogen effluvium, acute exacerbations of androgenetic alopecia, new onset alopecia areata, and recurrences in previously treated alopecia areata. The study concluded that about a quarter of the participants experienced hair loss post-vaccination, as confirmed by trichoscopy. However, it also noted that other factors such as stress and infection could not be ruled out, suggesting the need for further investigation in larger studies.
