TLDR Polynucleotide gel injections help reduce hair loss and increase hair thickness in people with pattern hair loss, with few side effects.
The study evaluated the effectiveness and tolerability of a polynucleotide-based gel for treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in 20 patients of both genders. Over a period of 4 months, the gel was injected in 10 sessions, with evaluations at weeks 6, 18, and 24. Results showed that 65%, 77.8%, and 63.2% of patients experienced slight to moderate hair growth improvement at these respective weeks. There was a significant decrease in hair shedding, an increase in the terminal/vellus hair ratio, and the anagen/telogen hair ratio at weeks 18 and 24. Hair thickness also significantly increased by week 24. Patient-reported hair improvement was 85%, 50%, and 47.4% at weeks 6, 18, and 24 respectively. Side effects were minor and manageable. The study concluded that polynucleotide gel injections effectively reduced hair shedding and increased hair thickness in AGA patients, with high patient satisfaction and a good safety profile.
