TLDR Higher platelet counts and activators in PRP improve hair density and thickness in treating hair loss.
This randomized, double-blind study involving 80 participants evaluated the effect of platelet counts and activator in platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on the treatment of androgenetic alopecia. The study found that higher platelet counts in PRP significantly improved hair density and thickness, with the most substantial increases observed in the group with platelet counts >10 lakh/mm³ (Group C). The use of an activator also significantly enhanced these outcomes. After six months, hair thickness increased by 32% in Group C, 29% in Group B, and 16% in Group A. The study concluded that both higher platelet counts and the use of an activator in PRP treatments lead to better results in terms of hair density and thickness. Temporary pain was the only reported side effect, with no major adverse effects observed.
