TLDR In Switzerland, 43% of men experience hair loss, and many switch to Propecia for treatment.
In 2001, a study was conducted in Switzerland to understand the significance of scalp hair and self-perception of hair loss in Swiss men, and to evaluate the current treatment of hair loss. The study involved 508 men aged 15-74 years who were interviewed by telephone, and 308 patient questionnaires completed by 19 dermatologists. The study found that 43% of the men reported hair loss to some extent, and for 42% a full head of hair was very important. Of the men with hair loss, 26% had previously applied hair growth agents. Among men consulting the dermatologist for hair loss, 90% had androgenetic alopecia. Prior treatments included minoxidil (59%), finasteride (4%), Aminexil (7%), dietary supplements (7%), and treatments conducted by the hairdresser (6%). In 79% of the cases, treatment was switched to Propecia, and of these, 73% adhered to the follow-up consultations at the dermatologist.
