TLDR Peripheral nerves are essential for skin wound healing and future treatments could improve by focusing on nerve and blood vessel regeneration.
Peripheral nerves are vital in skin wound healing by transmitting signals, regulating inflammation, and influencing stem cell behavior. They also promote angiogenesis, enhancing blood flow and nutrient supply. Regenerating damaged nerve fibers is crucial for restoring functions. Understanding nerve changes during healing can lead to personalized treatments. Current methods like electroactive hydrogels and NGF application show promise but face challenges. Future research should explore nerve regulation of immune responses and stem cell behavior, and develop biomaterials for nerve and vascular regeneration.
