TLDR A gel made with finasteride, garlic oil, and Aloe vera using nanotechnology can potentially treat hair loss more effectively.
The study aimed to improve the solubility and dermal permeation of finasteride, a drug used for treating alopecia, by developing a topical nanotransferosomal gel loaded with finasteride, garlic oil, and Aloe vera. The researchers used nanotechnology and experimental design to optimize the gel. The nanotransferosomal system was chosen due to its ability to deliver drugs to specific sites with better permeation and efficacy. Garlic oil and Aloe vera were included for their antimicrobial properties and potential to promote hair growth. The study concluded that the optimized formulation had the smallest possible globule size, maximum encapsulation efficiency, higher steady-state flux, and minimum inhibitory concentration value against Propionibacterium acnes, a bacteria causing scalp infection in alopecia. The study suggests that this formulation could be a promising approach for alopecia treatment.
