TLDR Nanoemulsions can effectively treat skin cancer with fewer side effects.
This review highlights the potential of topical nanoemulsions as innovative delivery systems for skin cancer treatment, emphasizing their ability to enhance therapeutic efficacy while minimizing side effects. Nanoemulsions offer advantages such as high drug strength, improved skin permeation and retention, biocompatibility, and controlled release. Despite challenges in skin permeability, nanoemulsions can deliver therapeutic agents both locally and systemically. The review analyzes various studies, noting the diversity in nanoemulsion formulations, droplet sizes, and surface charges, which affect their skin penetration capabilities. These characteristics underscore the promise of nanoemulsions in the targeted treatment of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers, offering a safer and more effective alternative to traditional chemotherapeutics.
