TLDR Microneedles are becoming essential tools in medicine for sensing, drug delivery, and communication.
Microneedles (MNs) and multifunctional microneedles (MFMNs) are emerging as promising tools in healthcare, offering less invasive alternatives for drug delivery, diagnostics, and theranostics. They can deliver a variety of medicinal compounds, including large proteins, with minimal pain and inflammatory reactions. MFMNs integrate capabilities such as drug release, sampling, sensing, and communication, which could revolutionize medical diagnosis and therapy. They show potential in applications like hair regeneration for androgenetic alopecia, cancer treatment, diabetes management, and real-time health monitoring. Despite challenges in manufacturing, testing, and regulatory approval, MFMNs hold promise for precision medical care and personalized medicine, with future advancements potentially transforming healthcare practices.
