TLDR Key genes affect cashmere quality differences between Jiangnan and Changthangi goats.
This study investigated the molecular mechanisms responsible for differences in cashmere quality between Jiangnan cashmere goats (JNCG) and Changthangi pashmina goats (CPG) by analyzing skin transcriptomic data from different hair follicle growth stages. A total of 4,942 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified, with significant enrichment in pathways such as PI3K-Akt signaling, Thermogenesis, and ECM-receptor interaction. Key candidate genes, including IFG1, IGF1R, FGF5, and several keratin-related genes, were highlighted for their roles in secondary hair follicle development and cashmere quality formation. These findings provide a theoretical basis for the genetic improvement of cashmere goats.
