TLDR The genetic variation in the KAP13-3 gene may affect cashmere fiber traits in Liaoning goats.
The study focused on identifying and characterizing the caprine KAP13-3 gene in 214 Liaoning cashmere goats from China. Researchers successfully amplified the gene using PCR and identified eight different alleles (A–H) through sequencing, which showed high homology to KRTAP13-3 sequences in sheep and cattle. Nine nonsynonymous nucleotide substitutions were found within the coding region, and the resulting polypeptide, consisting of 156 amino acids, was rich in serine, cysteine, and threonine, with high pI values. The genetic variation observed in the caprine KAP13-3 gene was suggested to potentially influence gene expression, protein structure, and the characteristics of cashmere fibers.
