TLDR A new model using mice with human hair follicles helps better understand hair loss from chemotherapy.
Yoon et al. developed an in vivo model for studying chemotherapy-induced hair loss by transplanting human scalp hair follicles onto chemotherapy-treated immunodeficient mice. Their findings showed that the response of these grafted hair follicles to cyclophosphamide closely resembled the hair loss observed in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. This model was considered more clinically relevant than previous models and was expected to be a valuable tool for understanding the mechanisms behind chemotherapy-induced hair loss.
