TLDR High-dose oral minoxidil in children can cause increased hair growth, especially on the face.
This study investigated the side effects of high-dose oral minoxidil in a pediatric population due to accidental exposure from contaminated omeprazole. It involved 20 patients aged 2 months to 13 years, who received an average dose of 0.90 mg/kg/day over 38.3 days. Hypertrichosis was observed in 65% of the patients, typically appearing after 24.31 days, with the face being the most common initial site. Systemic effects were noted in 15% of the cases, but no severe disorders were reported. The study provided new insights into the side effects of high doses of oral minoxidil in children.
