TLDR Low-dose oral minoxidil increases hair thickness and length in children with a hair disorder called Loose Anagen Hair Syndrome.
The study "Low‐dose oral minoxidil improves global hair density and length in children with loose anagen hair syndrome" conducted a retrospective review of eight girls aged 2-10 years with Loose Anagen Hair Syndrome (LAHS) treated with low-dose oral minoxidil (LDOM) in an Australian specialist hair clinic between March 2016 and October 2019. LAHS is a hair disorder characterized by increased hair shedding, nonscarring alopecia, an inability to grow long hair, and dull, lustreless hair. The treatment duration was a mean of 12.5 months. The results showed that hair length improved in all cases, and global hair density improved in seven cases. All patients noted a subjective reduction in hair shedding. One patient developed mild hypertrichosis of the legs but continued treatment. None of the patients reported cardiac or respiratory symptoms, had abnormal vital signs or abnormal weight gain. Two patients experienced a change in hair color during treatment. The study concluded that LDOM is a promising treatment for LAHS, particularly in children at the more severe end of the spectrum.
