TLDR Stopping 5% topical minoxidil can reverse unwanted hair growth on the face and limbs.
Five women with androgenetic alopecia experienced severe hypertrichosis on the face and limbs after 2-3 months of using 5% topical minoxidil. Upon discontinuation of minoxidil, the hypertrichosis resolved on the face and arms within 1-3 months and on the legs within 4-5 months. The study suggested that systemic absorption of minoxidil and high sensitivity of the follicular apparatus in these areas might have contributed to this side effect.
