TLDR The minoxidil emulgel is feasible and may be more effective for treating male pattern baldness.
The study focused on formulating a minoxidil emulgel for treating androgenic alopecia, specifically male pattern baldness. Minoxidil, a vasodilator, was combined with various gelling agents like carbopol 940, carbopol 934, xanthan gum, and methyl cellulose to create the emulgel. Infrared spectroscopy confirmed no physicochemical interactions between the drug and carriers. The emulgel's dissolution profile and evaluation parameters such as pH, spreadability, viscosity, and drug content were compared with a marketed formulation. The study concluded that the minoxidil emulgel was feasible and potentially more effective than other dosage forms for treating androgenic alopecia.
