TLDR A cat fully recovered from minoxidil poisoning with specific treatments.
A 4-year-old Norwegian Forest cat experienced anorexia, lethargy, and dyspnoea after accidental dermal exposure to minoxidil, a treatment for human alopecia. The cat exhibited hypothermia, tachypnoea, hypotension, and pulmonary issues. Despite initial supportive therapy, the condition worsened until minoxidil toxicosis was identified. Treatment with i.v. fluids and vasopressors, including dopamine and norepinephrine, normalized the cat's blood pressure and symptoms over 3 days. The cat fully recovered and was discharged 6 days post-exposure. This case was the first documented successful management of minoxidil toxicosis in a cat, providing insights and an optimized management plan for future cases.

This user, "ediblediety", has been taking oral minoxidil (1.25 mg daily), keto shampoo and occasional derm-rolling for 4 months to treat their hair loss, and they have experienced a shedding phase after the first few weeks of use. They report improvements in the thickness of their facial and body hair, but note that this may be daunting to women.

Minoxidil requires at least 6 months to show results and may not work for everyone. Combining it with Finasteride can improve outcomes, but stopping Minoxidil can result in losing any regrowth.

Low-dose oral minoxidil is a safe and effective hair loss treatment with fewer side effects than previously feared. Users often prefer it over topical minoxidil for better results, though some experience side effects like increased body hair and cardiovascular issues.
