TLDR Low-dose dutasteride effectively and safely promotes hair growth in men.
This study assessed the efficacy and safety of low-dose (0.2 mg) dutasteride for male androgenic alopecia in a 24-week trial with 139 men. The 0.2 mg dose significantly increased hair count by 22.38 hairs/cm² compared to 5.09 hairs/cm² in the placebo group, with improvements in hair growth, thickness, texture, and volume. The safety profile was favorable, with a low incidence of adverse events, the most common being erectile dysfunction in 7.19% of participants. The study concludes that 0.2 mg dutasteride is effective and safe for promoting hair growth in male AGA patients, though further research is needed due to the small sample size and focus on Korean males.
