TLDR Cattle skin has leptin which might control skin and hair growth.
The study investigated the expression of leptin (Lep) and its receptor (LepR) in bovine skin, focusing on their roles in epidermis growth and hair follicle cycles. Using RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry, researchers found that both Lep and LepR were present in the epidermis and hair follicles, particularly in the outer root sheath cells. The basal layer of the epidermis showed LepR, indicating a potential mitogenic role. The findings suggested that Lep might regulate epidermal growth and hair follicle cycles through paracrine and autocrine mechanisms. The study involved skin samples from ten 18-month-old male bovines of the Marchigiana and Limousine breeds.
