This study investigated the polymorphisms of the keratin-associated protein 8.1 (KAP8.1) gene and its impact on fibre traits in 540 Inner Mongolian Cashmere goats. Six genotypes (AA, BB, CC, AB, AC, and BC) were identified, coded by three alleles (A, B, and C), with two SNPs (T113G and G116C) confirmed. Significant associations were found between genotypes and cashmere weight, cashmere length, and hair length, but not with fibre diameter. Genotypes AB and BB were linked to higher cashmere weight compared to AA. The study suggested that KAP8.1 gene polymorphisms, particularly a mutation at the 113 locus, could serve as a molecular marker for cashmere weight in these goats.
