TLDR KAP8.2 gene variations affect cashmere quality in goats.
The study on 542 Inner Mongolia cashmere goats identified polymorphisms in the KAP8.2 gene, revealing six genotypes (AA, BB, DD, AB, AD, BD) associated with cashmere fibre traits. The AA genotype was most common and linked to the thinnest fibre diameter, while BB was associated with higher cashmere weight and thicker fibres. These findings indicated that KAP8.2 gene polymorphisms could be used as molecular markers for breeding strategies to improve cashmere quality, though further research in larger populations was needed to confirm these results.
