TLDR Mouse high-glycine/tyrosine proteins have distinct patterns in hair follicles, peaking at specific hair cycle days.
The study isolated and characterized mouse high-glycine/tyrosine proteins (HGTps) from a cDNA library, identifying six members categorized into type I and type II proteins, including a novel type II.4 protein. These proteins showed distinct expression patterns linked to the hair cycle, peaking during anagen phases and localized to cortical cells of hair follicles. The research highlighted evolutionary conservation and structural features of HGTps, suggesting their role in hair differentiation and strengthening, particularly in the first hair cycle. This work provided foundational insights into the genetic and protein composition of mouse hair, contributing to the understanding of hair protein structure and function.
