TLDR The study found specific skin cells and genes that may affect the quality of cashmere in Liaoning Cashmere Goats.
Three years ago, a study used single-cell RNA sequencing and computational models to identify 13 skin cell types in Liaoning Cashmere Goats, with a focus on understanding the cells that contribute to cashmere fineness. The study found that Secondary hair follicle dermal papilla cells (SDPCs) play a significant role in cashmere growth and density. Two genes, ACTA2 and COL1A1, were identified as highly expressed in SDPCs, with ACTA2 being a marker gene for these cells. Another gene, CXCL8, showed differential expression in coarse and fine types of Liaoning Cashmere Goats. The study suggested that COL1A1 may regulate skin development and CXCL8 may influence cashmere fineness. These findings could provide new insights into the mechanisms of cashmere growth and fineness regulation.
