TLDR Inositol hexaphosphate helps protect hearing by preserving ear cells in mice.
Inositol hexaphosphate (IP6) was studied for its potential to protect cochlear hair cells and reduce sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) in three female mouse models: one induced by cisplatin, another by aminoglycosides, and a third representing age-related hearing loss (ARHL). IP6 was administered either through injection or drinking water. Results showed that IP6, particularly at a dose of 80 mg/kg, significantly reduced hearing threshold shifts and ameliorated the loss of outer hair cells across all models. These findings suggest that IP6 could be a promising otoprotective agent for future clinical applications.
