TLDR Eating a high inositol diet significantly improves insulin resistance and hormone levels in women with PCOS.
A controlled clinical trial involving 60 women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) evaluated the impact of a high inositol diet on insulin resistance and metabolic hormones. The participants were divided into four groups: a control group, an inositol diet group, an inositol supplement group, and a combined group following a high inositol diet, taking inositol supplements, and 400 μg of folic acid per day. After 3 months, the combined group showed significant improvements in weight loss, BMI, waist and hip circumference, and hormone levels. Fasting blood glucose and insulin levels were significantly reduced in the inositol and folic acid supplement group, inositol supplement group, and inositol diet group compared to the control group. The study concluded that a high inositol diet can significantly improve insulin resistance and metabolic hormone profiles in women with PCOS.
