TLDR Inositol and phytic acid together increase hair growth and density.
The research examined the impact of inositol (IN) and phytic acid (PA), components from rice bran, on hair growth. The study involved culturing dermal papilla cells and analyzing the gene expression level of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) when IN and PA were added separately or together. A clinical trial was also conducted using a scalp lotion containing IN and PA on women. The results indicated that VEGF gene expression was increased by IN or PA and further increased when combined in a 1:3 mass ratio. The human study showed a significant increase in hair density after 18 weeks of applying the scalp lotion containing IN and PA. The study concluded that IN and PA effectively increase VEGF expression in dermal papilla cells and the number of hairs, particularly when mixed in a 1:3 mass ratio.

A 30-year-old female with PCOS and male pattern baldness is frustrated with her endocrinologist's recommendation of only Spironolactone and minoxidil, feeling that dutasteride, finasteride, and progesterone would be more effective. Other users suggest various online sources for treatments, warn against self-medicating due to potential risks, and recommend seeking a specialized endocrinologist or considering additional treatments like Inositol, Berberine, and dermaneedling.
