TLDR Intralesional methotrexate and triamcinolone acetonide are more effective than Vitamin D3 for treating alopecia areata.
This study involving 90 patients with alopecia areata found that intralesional methotrexate (MTX) and triamcinolone acetonide (TrA) were significantly more effective than Vitamin D3 in reducing Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) scores and promoting hair regrowth. After 12 weeks, MTX and TrA showed similar outcomes with no significant differences in hair regrowth percentage, while Vitamin D3 was less effective, showing a slower initial response and lower patient satisfaction. Side effects were minimal across all treatments, but MTX and TrA had higher patient satisfaction. The study concludes that intralesional MTX is a promising and safe treatment for alopecia areata, whereas Vitamin D3 offers the least benefit.
