A pilot study with varying sample sizes found that applying an antimicrobial lotion containing piroctone olamine and triclosan twice daily for 3-18 months significantly reduced inflammation and increased hair density in individuals with androgenetic alopecia. The lotion was well-tolerated with no adverse effects reported, suggesting that it may be a promising treatment option for AGA. However, larger studies are needed to confirm these findings. The study suggests that controlling microorganisms in the infrainfundibulum could potentially prevent and partially reverse hair loss in AGA.
