TLDR Certain immune markers and vitamin levels could help diagnose alopecia areata.
This study examined the immune and vitamin profiles of 28 alopecia areata patients and 28 healthy controls in Fujian, China, to identify potential biomarkers for the condition. Key findings include elevated levels of IL-4, TNF-α, and IFN-γ, and decreased levels of IgG4 in alopecia areata patients, suggesting these could serve as diagnostic markers. Vitamin analysis showed subtle differences, with alopecia areata patients having slightly lower levels of vitamins B2 and B5, but higher levels of vitamin B3 and vitamin A. The study highlights the potential role of specific cytokines and vitamins in the pathogenesis of alopecia areata, with significant differences in IgG4 and IFN-γ levels warranting further investigation into their roles in the disease's pathogenesis and potential integration into diagnostic models.
