TLDR Researchers created a long-lasting mouse skin cell strain that may help with hair growth research and treatments.
In 2018, researchers developed an optimized culture strategy for mouse dermal papilla (DP) cells, which are crucial for hair growth and regeneration. They used a stepwise dissection, collagen I coated plate, and α-MEM based culture medium. The team also immortalized the primary DP cells using SV40 large T antigen, a protein that extends cell lifespan. They established several cell strains, including iDP6, which was similar to primary DP cells. The study also found that the immortalization process was reversible. This research could be beneficial for future studies on hair follicle development and potential hair loss treatments.
