TLDR Many women in North West Saudi Arabia use herbal and home remedies for hair care, often learning about them through family and media.
In 2020, two studies were conducted in North West Saudi Arabia to understand the use of herbal and home remedies for hair and scalp care among women. The first study surveyed 500 women and found that 78% used these remedies, with olive oil, henna, black seed oil, and aloe vera being the most popular. The second study distributed a survey to 149 individuals involved in hair care and found that 41 plants and 11 home remedies were used, with henna, coconut, and olive being the most common plants, and yogurt, eggs, and honey being the most common home remedies. Both studies concluded that the use of these remedies was widespread, despite a lack of scientific information about their usage and safety. The second study also found that information about these remedies was primarily obtained through social routes, such as media and family, rather than medical books or health practitioners.
