TLDR Urticadioica L extract may enhance human hair growth.
The study conducted by Khaliun Myagmar, Enkhsaikhan Lkhagvasuren, and Munkhbayar Semchin in 2018 investigated the effects of Urticadioica L extracts on hair growth using in-vitro and ex vivo study methods. The research involved human single hair follicle and dermal papilla cells obtained from the scalp skin samples of healthy volunteers. The results showed that Urticadioica L ethanol extracts promoted the elongation of the hair shaft and reduced the catagen transition of human hair follicles in an organ culture model. Additionally, the extract increased Ki-67 positive matrix keratinocytes, which are markers of cell proliferation. The study concluded that Urticadioica L ethanol extract enhanced human hair growth in an ex vivo organ culture model, but future research is needed to understand its mechanism of hair growth.
