TLDR The 1% ethyl acetate fraction ethosomal gel from Nothopanax scutellarium leaves promotes hair growth but can mildly irritate the skin.
The study evaluated the hair growth activity of an ethosomal gel containing a 1% concentration of the ethyl acetate fraction of Nothopanax scutellarium leaves, comparing it to a 0.5% concentration, a non-ethosomal gel, and 2% minoxidil gel. The 1% ethosomal gel demonstrated superior hair growth activity and increased hair shaft thickness, attributed to the vasodilatory effect of flavonoids, although it was less effective than the positive control, minoxidil. In vitro tests showed that the 1% gel had higher skin penetration of quercetin than the non-ethosomal gel. However, both the 0.5% and 1% ethosomal gels were found to cause mild irritation. The study concluded that the 1% ethyl acetate fraction ethosomal gel is a promising agent for hair growth but may have mild irritant effects. The number of subjects involved in the study was not provided.
