TLDR Teak leaf extract hair tonic was tested for hair growth and safety.
The study, conducted by the Cosmetics and Natural Products Research Center at Naresuan University in Thailand, aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a hair tonic containing teak leaf extract in promoting hair growth. The study involved 90 male participants aged 20-60 years old suffering from androgenic alopecia (type II-V). The participants were randomized into three groups: one receiving 5% minoxidil (positive control), one receiving the hair tonic with teak leaf extract, and one receiving a placebo. The study measured target area hair count, hair density, anagen hair count, and telogen hair count using macro-photography trichoscopy Leviacam at baseline and every 4 weeks for a total duration of 24 weeks. Hair shedding, safety and adverse effects, and hair growth satisfaction were also measured. The study concluded in July 2022, and the results are planned to be published in a high-impact peer-reviewed journal by February 2024.
