TLDR GPR40 agonists help hair growth through the protein ANGPTL4.
The study investigated the role of GPR40, a G-protein coupled receptor, in hair growth using three GPR40 agonists (AMG837, Fasiglifam, TUG-770). The research involved both in vivo and in vitro experiments, including mouse models and cell cultures. The results showed that GPR40 agonists promoted hair growth in mice and increased cell proliferation and migration in human outer root sheath (hORS) cells. The effects of GPR40 agonists on hair growth were found to be mediated by ANGPTL4, a protein involved in lipid metabolism. The study also found that GPR40 agonists increased hORS cell proliferation up to 41% in a dose-dependent manner and increased the migration up to 2.4 fold. The researchers concluded that GPR40 could be a potential target for promoting hair growth and treating hair loss conditions.
