The Association of Gene Expression and Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (rs6152 SNP) in Androgen Receptor Gene with Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion in Iraqi Women

    March 2021 in “ Medico-Legal Update
TLDR The androgen receptor gene doesn't affect women with recurrent spontaneous abortions, but having a mutant genotype might protect against it.
The study aimed to determine the gene expression and single nucleotide polymorphism of the Androgen receptor gene (rs6152 G>T) in 50 Iraqi females with recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) and 50 healthy fertile controls. The research found no significant difference in the mean of the threshold cycle of the androgen receptor gene between females with RSA and controls. There was also no significant decrease in the expression of folding in androgen receptor mRNA in females with RSA compared to controls. However, there was a significant decrease in the heterozygous (GA) and mutant (AA) genotype frequencies in females with RSA, with an increased frequency of the wild (GG) genotype. The study concluded that the expression of the androgen receptor gene did not affect females with RSA, but the mutant genotype may act as a protective single nucleotide polymorphism against RSA.
