TLDR Combining fractionated CO2 laser with tacrolimus may help treat chronic alopecia areata.
This case series study explores the use of fractionated CO2 laser (FCL) in combination with topical tacrolimus 0.1% ointment for treating chronic alopecia areata (AA) resistant to corticosteroids. Three patients with AA, unresponsive to corticosteroids for at least 12 months, were treated with this combination therapy. After 16 weeks, all patients exhibited improvement in clinical and trichoscopic parameters in the treated areas. The study suggests that FCL combined with tacrolimus may offer a new therapeutic option for AA, though further research is necessary to confirm these findings.
