Forsythiae Fructus: A Review on Its Phytochemistry, Quality Control, Pharmacology and Pharmacokinetics

    Forsythiae Fructus, a traditional Chinese medicine, was widely used in Asia for its heat-clearing and detoxifying effects. Modern studies confirmed its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antiviral properties through in vitro and in vivo experiments. A total of 321 compounds were identified, and sensitive analytical methods were developed for quality control. Recent pharmacokinetic studies provided insights into its clinical application. This review summarized the phytochemistry, pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and standardization of Forsythiae Fructus, highlighting differences between unripe and ripe forms to guide clinical use and future research.
